In August of 2022, we took a trip to Ireland.…In November of that same year, we sat around the firepit reflecting on that trip and our desire to see more of the world and made a life-changing decision: we were going to travel full time. At the time, we were working as performers at a theatre on yearly contracts—the closest thing to a “stable” job we’d ever had. So we gave ourselves two years: two years to save, to prepare, to learn… we dove headfirst into YouTube University, watching every tutorial, travel vlog, and coaching video we could find.

We researched gear and booked a trip to Iceland for August 2023 as a “trial run” of vlogging. We filmed EVERYTHING during that trip—and then Kyle spent the next year and a half using that footage to teach himself how to edit in DaVinci Resolve while Cat committed to learning the “business” of travel vlogging. At the end of 2024, Cat entered into her final Christmas contract at Sight & Sound, and Kyle submitted his notice to the theatre he’d been managing. It was the point of no return. We began to sell everything: our furniture, our clothing, our cars… and prepared to rent out our house in our absence.

On February 6th, 2025, we left on a one-way plane ticket from Washington, D.C. to Cape Town, South Africa. We spent the next month exploring Africa: two weeks at a friend’s place in Fish Hoek, then three weeks at our first Workaway at a wedding venue in Potchefstroom.

In March, we flew to Portugal, hopped around Spain and Portugal for a bit between visits with friends and family and a second Workaway, then began our “petsitting chapter” with TrustedHousesitters in Zurich before flying to the UK. We spent the next three months in the suburbs of London recovering from the whiplash of an aggressive life change—living in gorgeous English houses we couldn’t afford and petting cats.

On a whim in June we decided to apply for Kiwi.com’s “World Travel Hackers” campaign: a competition to win €10,000 Euro and use it to circumnavigate the globe and create content along the way. It’s crazy how sometimes those “little whims” can be the key to huge life change: we won. And thus July and August were spent prepping and launching into the craziest and most exhilarating adventure of our lives!

World Travel Hackers: August 2025

We’re about nine months into this crazy journey and are finally seeing the first glimmers of this becoming the full-time career we’ve been working toward for three years now. We’re becoming more comfortable with who “we” are as travel vloggers and have found as close to a rhythm as one can find while living out of suitcases.

In the two years we spent in Missouri preparing for this life change, there was one thing I really wanted to see more of in the travel vlogging space: approachability. It often felt like the narrative was either “we’re doing this, look how awesome it is!” or “we can teach you to be like us.” But what I wanted was people who felt like my friends—just a little crazier—and happy to share that crazy with me! People who felt approachable, creative, honest… so we took to heart the old adage “be who you needed” and made it our goal to be those travel vloggers:

Nine months in, I think we might finally be hitting a rhythm. We’ve tried different posting schedules, had our website hacked (haha welcome to our new non-hacked website!), slept in airports, and had our fair share of nervous breakdowns. We’ve also met the most beautiful people, seen corners of the world we’d never dreamed of, and laughed… so much.

So here’s what you can expect from KyleCaughtaCat:

  • Bi-weekly travel vlogs on YouTube
  • Blogs that alternate between stories, travel hacks, and resources
  • Wellness, budget, and adventure shenanigans on Instagram—often with a taste of self-deprecating humor
  • And, if you’d like to drop your email in the form below, a BTS newsletter straight to your inbox!

There’s a temptation to wrap up this section with a lovely declarative bow: this is who we are and what you can expect from us. But to be honest, we’re still figuring it out. We have dreams of creating merch, hosting group trips, creating content for tourism boards and cruise lines and quirky AirBNB’s… but we’re just out here taking it one step at a time and seeing where the road goes! In the words of Cat’s fashion icon:

Thanks for joining us on this journey to make some memories. Cheers to life’s adventures!
